The 1428 Active Retirement Club Ltd was founded in 1998 and in May 2001 we acquired premises of 2,200 square feet at 46 Dominick Street, Mullingar Co Westmeath. In September 2003 the Club took over another 800 square ft at the above address, as the extra space was required. The Club is open Monday to Friday from 9.00am - 10.00pm most days and from 10.00am - 5.00pm on Saturdays when required.
We are an active retirement club and cater for the needs of retired citizens residing in Mullingar and the surrounding area of Co Westmeath. We intend to construct a centre here in Mullingar for the membership and affiliated members of the club. The centre, when complete, will be to our knowledge, the first of its kind in the Republic of Ireland.
The Club has in the excess of 500 members and affiliated members and since opening the Club has a policy of networking and discussing with other like-minded groups, the needs of the community at large. We also have members on local committees, Westmeath Arts Forum and the Consumer Panel for Older People etc. etc. Westmeath County Council has kindly offered the 1428 Club a building site, the location of which is Raithin close to the new ring road at Ardleigh. It is anticipated that we will have access to the sight by the end of this year 2009.
The centre when built will be open seven days a week. At present our building fund stands at €120,000. The club would be very grateful if any individual or business would like to participate in this project by purchasing a brick for the sum of €500. All the donors’ names will go into a draw to have the rooms in the new centre named after the winners. Cash donations are also very welcome.
We welcome members from all walks of life, this service is for anybody who may be retired or need some activities as part of their day to day life, for whatever reasons. There are no age or gender restriction. Westmeath County Council have kindly offered a building site. We intend to construct a centre here in Mullingar for its 300+ membership. The centre, whem complete, will be to our knowledge, the first of its kind in the Republic of Ireland.
